Facts about Low-Cost Oils

Cooking oil is a common ingredient in all our dishes right from salads to main courses. Oil in our kitchen recognizes where we have come from.

Different cultures use different forms of oils in their dishes, however, expect the same on grocery shelves. But we have different kinds of oils in the market with different prices to choose from. Foods on market shelves are usually picked up by us without noticing the ingredients mentioned on them. These might be hazardous to health especially for children and old aged; an effect may not be instant but may become a health hazard when used for a prolonged time.

Be sure about what you are buying

Here I’m mentioning some of these commonly used oils which are widely used in hotels, restaurants, desserts, packed foods like bakery, pickles, chips, etc.

Choosing tricks:

  • Always spend time in reading the labeling of food products when purchasing- any food products containing “edible oil” may contain any of these oils.
  • Check the kind of oil used in the preparation of food products as listed above.
  • Look for partially hydrogenated oils which are a source of trans-fat. If the product contains partially hydrogenated oils, it may contain a small amount of trans-fat even though the label shows zero trans-fat.
