Star anise is always a popular spice and is a secret ingredient in preparing spice powders (masala powders), especially in Indian cooking. The only state that produces a viable crop of spice is Arunachal Pradesh in India, as the soil and climatic conditions are just right for its growth. Recently, star anise is used more in baking and liquor production.
Star anise is rich in antioxidants and vitamin A, B6 and C, which help fight free radicals that are responsible for early aging and diabetes. It is also a good source of magnesium, calcium and iron.
