Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI) has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
This is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India. FSSAI is responsible to grant licenses that conform to its guidelines to run Food Business Operator (FBO’s).
These includes restaurants, food manufacturing units, food trade/business, centralized kitchens etc.
Also, it is involved in gathering the data regarding food consumption, contamination, emerging risks. etc.
This helps analyzing the quality and safety of food, nutritional status and its wastage in India.
